New associate minister at Covenant Presbyterian

Covenant Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Oak Ridge has welcomed a new minister to its pastoral staff.

The Rev. Sean Morris was called by the congregation in the spring of 2022 and was formally installed at the congregation on June 26. He is the associate minister of the congregation, according to a church news release. He is serving alongside the congregation’s senior pastor, the Rev. Dr. C.N. Willborn, who has been serving at the congregation since 2009.

Morris previously served as the associate pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church (PCA) of Roanoke, Virginia from May 2015 to May 2022.

Born and raised along America’s snowbelt in northeastern Ohio, he attended Grove City College in Grove City, Pennsylvania, earning his bachelor's degree in in biblical and religious studies. He went on to earn his Master of Divinity (MDiv) from Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi in December 2014.

In 2019, Morris completed his master of theology studies with the University of Glasgow (Scotland), focusing on Scottish theology and church history. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in historical theology from Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

While in Mississippi, he served as stated pulpit supply for Pine Ridge Presbyterian Church in Natchez, Mississippi — the oldest Presbyterian church in that state, dating back to 1807 — and as an intern to the Senior Minister at First Presbyterian Church in Jackson, Mississippi, serving under both Dr. J. Ligon Duncan and Dr. David Strain. Additionally, he served as an Honors Scholar and Teaching Assistant for the Academic Dean and the Chancellor during his time at RTS. He has also taught abroad in West Africa for the Presbyterian Church in the Gambia.

While in Virginia, Morris helped found the Blue Ridge Institute for Theological Education (BRITE), a regional, church-based theological training institution serving students throughout Appalachia and around the world. He labored there as an instructor and as the academidean.

Beyond theology, writing, and good literature, Morris said he is passionate about good coffee and the "Three Bs" —Bach, Brahms, and Beethoven. He has written for various academic and popular level periodicals. Including Reformation21, Humane Pursuits, Ad Fontes, and the Puritan Reformed Journal.

Sean and his wife, Sarah, live in Oak Ridge with their two sons, one daughter, and "an adorably useless beagle," the release stated.
