Astrocartography Can Help You Decide Where To Go On Your Next Vacay, Astrologers Say

So you know your sun sign, rising sign, moon sign, and maybe even a few of your planetary placements. Now, you’re probably searching for even more astrological info to sink your teeth into, but you’re not quite sure where to begin. Introducing: Astrocartography, another helpful (yet complicated) way to incorporate the intense power of the zodiac into your lifestyle and well being.

Also known as astrolocality, astrocartography is essentially a map of how and where the planetary energies in your astrological chart have an influence on you across the world, explains astrologist Sanasjia Clervoix.

An astrocartography map contains markings similar to the coordinates, longitude, and latitude lines you’d see on a regular map, all of which denote specific planets, energies, and opportunities that you might find present in locations based on your birth chart, Clervoix says.

Some astrologers are specifically trained in astrocartography, making it their expertise, such as astrologer Madalyn Hills-Deneen. If you’re seeking out specific kinds of people, mindsets, career opportunities, and more, you might want to check out your map with an astrocartography-specific astrologer, Hills-Deneen says.

So, you already know your love of astrology knows no geographical bounds, but here's everything you need to know about astrocartography, per astrology experts.

What is astrocartography, and is it actually real?

"It’s just as real as your birth chart. It’s basically your birth chart in the context of the globe," Clervoix says in response to astrocartography doubters. And as you know, your chart is all about the details of your birth (such as location, date, time, etc.) and how planetary interactions impact you as a person IRL, Clervoix explains.

So when it comes to astrocartography, the practice is very similar to the making of your birth chart. Astrologers "take the person’s date, time, and place of birth and create a map of the world," Hills-Deneen explains. Depending on the contents of the chart, and with the guidance of an astrologer, it can help you better understand yourself and where in the world you might have the most ideal experiences in life.

"The map shows lines for not only the sun, but all of the planets and where they might be directly overhead, where they might be on the eastern horizon, where they might be on the western horizon or settings," Hills-Deneen says.

Cool, but what do astrocartography lines mean exactly?

As mentioned, each line on an astrological map means something different and can tell you specifics about how you’ll feel in the area on which it lands. Specifically, some of the lines you’ll find on your chart and their meanings are:

Sun line

Anywhere that touches this line, given the sun’s presence, is a place where you’ll shine, says Hills-Deneen. There’s the possibility for you to shine in your personal relationships, career, day-to-day life, and more, depending on where the line falls on your map.

Moon line

Typically associated with feminine energy and healing, the moon line can represent your emotional world, Clervoix says. Among other things, it’s a place where you can connect with a deeper part of yourself and hone in on your intuition, Clervoix adds. You may even feel a bit more emotional than normal.

Venus line

The Venus line is known for having a connection to social life, love, community, and being a positive, grateful force in your existence. (Makes sense, since Venus is associated with love.) Also of note: This line is "good for the arts and things to do with beauty," Hills-Deneen says, which can have important implications if you work in a creative field.

Mercury line

The Mercury line is associated with communication and thought, Hills-Deneen explains. So if you need to ruminate on life choices or get something off your chest, perhaps gravitating toward a location where this line touches is the best place to do so.

Mars line

The Mars line, related to action and sex, can bring out an aggressive, confrontational side. (Though that doesn’t have to be a negative thing.) "If you want some place to feel a bit more drive, a Mars line will help give you the passion to make you go full speed ahead with whatever you want to do," Clervoix explains. Noted.

Jupiter line

ICYDK, "Jupiter is the planet of luck and abundance," Clervoix says. Your Jupiter line, therefore, is a place where you can go to gain more money, opportunities, and investments, explains Clervoix. Where your Jupiter line touches can also be a great place to invest in higher education, Hills-Deneen says, given the line’s penchant for easing financial worries.

Saturn line

If any places or other planetary lines interact with the Saturn line, Hills-Deneen says, it could present a challenge. This line is known for difficulty, hardship, but also learning life’s necessary tough lessons (which, while painful, isn’t always a bad thing, right?).

Pluto line

Listen up: Pluto lines are where you might come into contact with life and death matters, Hills-Deneen says. Basically, this is a line of important, transformational situations, and you might even associate with people in power or of influence while located there.

North and South node lines

Your north and south nodes are also important when it comes to how your chart is read, Clervoix says, and they’re determined by the moon’s orbit in relation to the earth’s orbit, rather than planets themselves. Your north node represents destiny and future, while your south node stands for the past.

Worth noting: These are the very general meanings associated with each of these lines, astrologers stress. The way they manifest is determined by their proximity to each other, where they fall on the world map, your personal birth chart, and more. Astrocartography is a complex practice that contains multitudes—more than what can be distilled into a brief definition.

Can astrocartography help me decide where to live?

In short, you don’t need to up and move tomorrow just because your astrocartography chart says you might benefit by being near a certain location. (Or that you’re lacking explicit good fortune where you’re currently situated.) That said, you can certainly use your chart as a means for inspiration if you’re looking to change things up.

"Most of my clients want to relocate or travel," explains Elizabeth Smith, an astrologer who specializes in astrocartography. But before you even think about packing your bags, you'll want to take a holistic, deep look at your chart alongside a professional. Don't jump to conclusions about where to live—otherwise you could get burned by impulsive decisions, Smith notes.

Astrocartography can help you with smaller insights and decisions, too. You don’t have to move completely to reap the benefits of your chart.

For example: If you’re visiting a friend or taking a vacation, looking at your astrological chart beforehand can help you gain a better understanding of what you might find there. Basically, astrocartography offers an inside view of what you can expect to unfold in any given place before you go there, Smith says.

How do I find my astro map?

It's best to book an appointment with a professional astrologer if you want to find the most accurate, specific details regarding your astrological map.

That said, you can find a pretty basic, easy-to-use version on astro.com, where you just have to plug in the details of your birth chart and boom, you’re good to go with some potentially eye-opening (albeit brief) insights at your disposal.
