Astros' Correa (back) to miss rest of regular season

Astros shortstop Carlos Correa will miss the rest of the regular season due to his back injury, manager AJ Hinch said prior to Houston's Thursday night game against the Los Angeles Angels.

Correa was examined by a Los Angeles doctor on Thursday, and Hinch said no major issues were discovered.

Thursday marked the third straight game Correa has missed. He will also miss the final three contests of the four-game series in hopes the rest will help his ailing back.

Correa was scratched from the Tuesday game in Seattle after he said his back tightened up during a Monday flight from Houston to the Pacific Northwest.

The Astros will begin a playoff series late next week against an opponent to be determined. Hinch is hoping more than a week of not playing will aid Correa.

"There's certain timing and rhythm and playing he needs to do to make us all feel better," Hinch said. "He played very well when he was active a couple of days ago. He's very, very good. I know he'll be able to respond. I think anybody in my seat will feel better when he's on the field and playing."

Correa batted .279 with 21 homers and 59 RBIs in 75 games during an injury-prone season.

Correa, who turned 25 on Sunday, missed 50 games with a fractured rib, returning to action on July 26. He injured his back 3 1/2 weeks later and sat out the next 25 games before returning on Sept. 17.
