ASU football lands starting nose tackle Nesta Jade Silvera from Miami

Oct 23, 2021; Miami Gardens, Florida, USA; Miami Hurricanes defensive lineman Nesta Jade Silvera (1) reacts during the second half of the game against the North Carolina State Wolfpack at Hard Rock Stadium.

With D.J. Davidson forgoing his last year of eligibility and declaring for the NFL Draft, the Arizona State Sun Devils were in need of nose tackle. Well they seem to have found one and he comes courtesy of the transfer portal.

The University of Miami's Nesta Jade Silvera, a 6-foot-2, 306-pounder, is headed to Tempe and will enroll immediately according to a report from the Miami Herald.

He appeared in 41 games for the Hurricanes over the past four years. He played in 11 games with eight starts the past season, helping the Hurricanes to a 7-5 mark and 5-3 showing in the ACC.

On the season he totaled 38 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, five quarterback hurries, a sack and a forced fumble. He had a season-high six tackles against Florida State (Nov. 13) and matched that with six tackles the following week against Virginia Tech.

Silvera is a South Florida product out of American Heritage High School in Plantation, West of Fort Lauderdale. He was ranked as a consensus four-star prospect by ESPN.com, 247Sports.com and Rivals.com, listed as third-best defensive tackle, 14th-best prospect in Florida and No. 50 overall prospect in country by ESPN.com.

He helped American Heritage to back-to-back Class 5A state championships and 27 straight wins, earning a selection to the 2018 U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio after recording a team-best 79 tackles, 25 tackles for loss and 12 sacks in 2017.

He chose Miami over offers from the likes of Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Auburn, Florida, Tennessee, Ohio State, Penn State and TCU.
