ATF nominee expresses sympathy for Uvalde, Texas, after school shooting
Delivering remarks before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, Steven Dettelbach, President Biden’s nominee to be the director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, said his thoughts were with the community of Uvalde, Texas, after Tuesday’s school shooting in which 19 students and 2 faculty members were killed.

STEVEN DETTELBACH: I appreciate the heartfelt words I've heard today from the Chairman and Ranking Member Grassley about yesterday's tragedy in Uvalde. The pain that those families and really the whole community and all of us feel, especially those families, it's just unimaginable to me.
I think for me and for many last night was a night where parents everywhere hug their kids just a little bit harder at the end of the day. I know I did. My thoughts are very much with the community in Texas that are suffering so deeply, and with other communities, because this event can be a catalyst for other people who have gone through this to relive some of the great pain that they feel.
