Athens-area basketball playoffs: Schedules, how to watch, buy tickets, results

March Madness is gearing up for Athens-area high school basketball teams. The area has four teams remaining in their respective playoffs and they're just a couple wins away from state titles.

Here's a look at who remains from Athens-area schools, schedules, video streams if available, how to buy tickets and a synapsis of how they got there.

GHSA Boys Class 4A Quarterfinals

Madison County at Benedictine

FINAL: Benedictine 58, Madison County 35

How they got there: Madison County toppled Northwest Whitfield in the first round before a thrilling 49-48 win Saturday over Lovett. Benedictine defeated Trinity Christian and Perry in the first two rounds, respectively.

The Red Raiders (27-3) are having one of the best seasons in school history and won the Region 8-4A regular season championship before being upset by Walnut Grove in the tournament finals. Benedictine (17-5) claimed the Region 3-4A championship and is on a nine-game win streak.

GHSA Boys Class A Division I Quarterfinals

Athens Christian vs. Swainsboro

FINAL: Swainsboro 70, Athens Christian 55

How they got there: Athens Christian defeated Dade County and Mount Bethel Christian in the first two rounds while Swainsboro blew out Bacon County before narrowly slipping past Savannah.

The Eagles (18-9) claimed the Region 8-A Division I title while Swainsboro (14-9) is the Region 2-A Division I champions. Athens Christian was the beneficiary of a GHSA coin flip that determined the top half of the bracket would host for like seeds.

GHSA Girls Class A Division I Quarterfinals

Oglethorpe County at Woodville-Tompkins

FINAL: Woodville Tompkins 64, Oglethorpe County 44

How they got there: Oglethorpe County defeated Paideia in the first round before an electrifying 51-50 win Friday night over Rabun County. Woodville-Tompkins enjoyed blowout wins over Crawford County and Dublin in the first two rounds.

The Patriots (18-9) are on an 11-game win streak that took them to the Region 5-A Division I championship while Woodville-Tompkins (23-5) have won 10 in a row, including the Region 3-A Division I title. Woodville-Tompkins will host after GHSA coin flip determined that the top half of the bracket would host for like seeds.

GIAA Boys Class A Semifinals at West Georgia University

Monsignor Donovan vs. Robert Toombs Christian, 3 p.m. Thursday

How they got there: Seeded second in GIAA Class A, Monsignor Donovan received a first-round bye before downing David Emanuel Academy on Saturday. Robert Toombs, a 3 seed, reached the semifinals on Saturday with a defeat of Grace Christian.

The Rams (15-11), ranked second in GIAA according to Maxpreps, went undefeated in Region 4 play to claim the region championship. Robert Toombs (15-12) placed second in Region 3, behind No. 1 seed Memorial Day, the state's top seed.
