Athens area volunteers recognized at Girl Scout conference

The Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia recently held its 2023 Adult Council and National Awards conference in Homer and several Athens area residents were recognized for their volunteer work.

Five volunteers who were honored with the Spirit Award were Kira Miller of Watkinsville, Laura Seward of Bogart, Lisa Hollingsworth of Athens, Sonya Plunkett of Madison and Adrienne West of Murrayville.

The Appreciation Pine awards were given to Debra Harden of Watkinsville and Pricilla Arend of Dawsonville.

The Honor Pin was awarded to Amy Atao of Crawford. A member of the scout council, Betsy Connell, senior director of Outdoor Programs, received the Thanks Badge award.

In addition to the adult volunteers, the Girl Scouts council also announced that three Girl Scots, Stephanie Hoon of Dawsonville, Ellie Wingate of Gainesville, and Emily Trinkwalder of Braselton were recognized as Gold Award winners, the highest award given to scouts.

These winners are also provided with scholarship money from the national organization.

The council includes scouts in 122 Georgia counties, two in South Carolina and one in Alabama.
