Greenview volleyball player voted State Journal-Register's athlete of the week
Greenview volleyball player Lacie Schultz won the first State Journal Register's athlete of the week award for the 2022-23 school year.
Schultz earned 50 percent of the 91,029 votes, beating out Havana football player Dane Olson (42 percent). Full results are below.
Schultz, a senior outside hitter, tallied eight aces in a 25-10, 25-9 win over South Fulton on Tuesday then delivered six kills, 11 digs and three aces in a 25-20, 25-17 win over White Hall North Greene on Wednesday.

The senior setter totaled five kills, 15 digs and 20 assists and the Titans weathered a 25-20, 31-33, 25-16 victory over visiting Quincy on Thursday.

Makenna Cox, Lutheran volleyball
The senior outside hitter posted 16 kills and host Lutheran High defeated Staunton 25-20, 25-18 in the championship match to win the Crusader Classic volleyball tournament on Saturday. The Crusaders (7-0) went 5-0 in the tournament with wins over LaSalle-Peru, Troy Triad, Riverton and Metro East Lutheran before beating Staunton.
Cory Craig Jr., Athens football
The junior running back totaled 225 rushing yards and four TDs in the Warriors’ 40-0 Sangamo Conference win over host Pittsfield on Thursday. He expanded the lead 16-0 with a 40-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and sprinted 80 yards to the end zone on his last score.
Becca and Brenden Heitzig, Lincoln cross country
The siblings each won the individual titles at the Rocket Run for the Stars Invitational at Alpha Park in Bartonville on Saturday. Becca won the 3-mile girls' race in 18 minutes, 16.7 seconds — ahead of second- and third-place SHG runners Kaitlyn Lee (19:50.6) and Vivian Rahmel (20:22.0).
Brenden Heitzig won the boys 3-mile race in 15:41.9 and beat out teammate Jake Bivin by nearly 40 seconds. Lincoln finished second in the boys race team standings with 40 points — nine behind Decatur St. Teresa. Lincoln did not have enough girls to count toward the team score, won by Peoria Notre Dame.

Jack Knudson, Chatham Glenwood football
The senior quarter was 15-for-19 for 352 passing yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in a 64-23 Central State Eight Conference win over Jacksonville on Friday.
Ty Lott, Sacred Heart-Griffin football
The senior quarterback threw a 64-yard TD to Andrew McDowell on his first pass attempt and finished 18-of-22 for 314 yards and four TDs with no interceptions in a 62-27 Central State Eight Conference win over Rochester at Ken Leonard Field. He was 9-of-10 for 169 yards and two TDs in the first half. He completed passes to eight different players.
Dane Olson, Havana football
The senior running back rushed 17 times and compiled 196 yards with three touchdowns in Havana's 26-6 Prairieland Conference win over Lewistown. Olson had TD runs of 43, 3 and 70 yards.
Kyle Ward, Sacred Heart-Griffin boys soccer
The senior forward lifted the Cyclones to a 2-1 Central State Eight Conference road win over Rochester on Tuesday. He assisted the team’s first goal to Parker Boatman then secured the victory with an unassisted goal, both in the second half.

Peyton Woods, Springfield High boys golf
The senior captured medalist honors at the Dick Gerber Invitational after shooting a two-day total of 138 in Edwardsville. Woods fired a 69 at Oak Brook Golf Course on Friday and had another 69 at Fox Creek on Saturday. It helped Springfield finish in sixth place in the team standings.
