Athens girls edge Centreville

The Athens girls won a close one over Centreville on Thursday evening.

The Indians traveled to St. Joseph County for the contest and went home with a 36-30 victory.

Neither team had a fun offensive first quarter, Centreville trailed 6-4 after the opening eight minutes. Following that, each team went into the locker rooms with 13 points on the board.

Athens would out-score Centreville 9-8 in the third and 14-9 in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

Centreville had 13 of their 17 second-half points scored by Faith Edwards. She finished with 17 points to lead the Bulldogs.

Drew Alexander scored four points while Emmy Pritchard, Mara Webb, Paris Lugo and Kendalynn Bernheisel all had two points. Hailey Miller made a free throw.

Webb hauled in eight rebounds with three steals and four blocks, Edwards finished with seven rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Waldron tops Burr Oak

The Burr Oak girls dropped a 40-26 decision to Waldron on Thursday.

Braylyn Hernandez led the Lady Bobcats with 11 points and four rebounds in the game.

Elaine Holtom scored five points, Makaila Whittington added two points with eight rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Saryia Cornejo threw in two points with seven rebounds and two blocks. Isabella Boyd scored two points, Brooklynn Root added two points with four rebounds while Inez Ultz also tossed in two points.
