An Athens High School science teacher is fulfilling one of her dreams by appearing as a contestant on "Jeopardy!"

Co-workers, friends and family members will gather with Pam Warren at the high school for a live watch party today.

The trivia show airs locally at 3:30 p.m. on WAND-TV.

A longtime fan of the show, Warren said her efforts to try to be a contestant started in early 2021 with a series of online tests and playing mock games.

Warren filmed at the "Jeopardy!" studios in Culver City, California, in early August.

"The production staff there did an amazing job of allowing the contestants to really enjoy the experience," Warren said Thursday. "I think they have an understanding most (contestants) have wanted to be on 'Jeopardy!' for a long time. We're big fans, and it's pretty much a one-shot deal, so the experience of being there in the studio on the day was excellent."

Warren said host Ken Jennings, who holds the record for the longest winning streak on "Jeopardy!" with 74 consecutive wins, was "very encouraging. He told us, 'I was where you were at one time, just enjoy the moment and don't get too nervous.'"

Jennings shares hosting duties with Mayim Bialik.

Warren's husband, Greg, who works for a home medical equipment company, flew to California with her and was in the studio audience.

Contractually, Warren isn't allowed to talk about the show's outcome.

"Of course, I was hoping there would be a lot of science clues and also hoping if there were, I would get them correct, so my students wouldn't make fun of me at work," said Warren, who teaches physics and chemistry.

Warren, who lives in Petersburg, has four children, including a daughter who attends school in the PORTA system.

Warren has taught at Athens High School for 21 years and taught overall for 26 years.
