Athens' leaf pickup to start Nov. 7

Nov. 1—Athens' city offices will be closed Nov. 11 for Veterans Day, but sanitation will run as scheduled and residents are asked to have their bins at the curb by 6 a.m.

The Sanitation Department will start leaf pickup Monday but there is no set schedule. Sanitation said, as staffing allows, they will start on one side of the city and work to the other side throughout the season.

The department is asking residents not to mix tree limbs or debris with the leaves; such piles will not be picked up. Sanitation also asks residents to not place leaves in the street or block drainage inlets. They said this will cause water drainage issues when it rains.
