The award was presented during the recent meeting of the Georgia Association for Career & Technical Education conference that drew more than 1,700 members to the Classic Center in Athens.

At Tech, Buie is chairman for the hotel, restaurant, tourism management, and culinary arts program where students can work toward certificate, diploma or associate degree credentials, according to the college.

An educator for the past nine years, Buie has a doctorate degree from Argosy University and bachelor and master’s degrees from Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Mo. He grew up in Chicago, Ill., and is a graduate of the Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences.

Before moving to Athens, Buie worked for Oklahoma State University and did a fellowship which allowed him to live and teach in China for more than four years.

“I am a huge advocate for earning college credit while in high school,” said Buie, who said he advocates throughout the area for the career and technical education programs.

At Tech, he has partnered his programs with other businesses such as The Georgia Club, Ritz-Carlton and Epting Events.
