ATHENS, MI. — The Athens Lady Indians made an epic run to the Division Four State Championship this season before falling in a heartbreaker to Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart in an epic five set clash in the finals. Thanks to their tremendous season a total of five Athens volleyball players earned MIVCA All State honors, including two first team honorees, one second team honoree and two third team selections.

Leading the way on the Division Four All State First Team was senior setter Alaina Brubaker. Brubaker was the quarterback of the very potent Athens offense and led the team each and every night with her steady leadership and decision making abilities.

Also earning All State First Team honors for Athens was junior middle hitter Kamryn Parlin. Parlin was a huge part of the Athens success this season, serving as one of the most dangerous hitters in the state at the net while also adding that to a tremendous defensive effort when she rotates. Parlin will return next year hoping to lead Athens to the promised land of Kellogg Arena yet again.

Earning Division Four All State Second Team honors was senior outside hitter Kylie Quist. Much like Parlin, Quist was a dominant force at the net for Athens, both on offense and defense. The 5’6” athlete made huge plays all across the court for Athens and helped lead the Indians to the state finals with her play making abilities.

Two Athens athletes earned MIVCA D4 All State Third Team honors as senior outside hitter Jocelyn Hall and junior middle hitter Piper Porter were both honored for their work in the purple and black.

Hall was routinely the most athletic player on either side of the net and showcased her talents in a variety of ways in helping the Athens cause, either with her booming kills, her slick digs, the occasional block or her pinpoint serving. Hall is a three sport athlete and recently signed her letter of intent to play softball at the college level.

Also earning All State Third Team honors was junior middle hitter Piper Porter. Porter used her impressive height, standing at 5’11” tall, and her extreme athleticism to cause absolute havoc for opposing teams, either on offense or defense. Porter could be seen either stuffing an opposing teams kill attempt, tipping a well timed shot past her opponents defense, or breaking their spirit with a huge kill that would reverberate throughout the state. Piper will return next season in hopes of helping lead Athens back to Kellogg Arena for another shot at state finals gold.
