The Las Vegas Raiders acquired Davante Adams during the offseason to make a push to keep up with other AFC powers around the league.

Sharing a division with Kansas City, the Chargers and facing a stout Broncos defense twice a year made the move a potential game changer for the Raiders.

It hasn’t really panned out the way the team planned so far, but you can’t deny the talent of Adams as Vegas comes to Jacksonville this weekend.

A consensus top receiver in the league, Adams has recorded 8,633 yards on 707 career receptions with 78 touchdowns throughout his nine-year career. He’s a five-time Pro Bowler and was voted as an All-Pro twice.

Through eight seasons with the Green Bay Packers, Adams emerged as a favorite target for Aaron Rodgers and established himself as an elite route runner and pass catcher.

This season with the Raiders has been a down year for him, only recording one catch on five targets against the Saints last week. But don’t expect the Jaguars to take him or his skillset lightly.

“He’s a go-to guy. He’s a guy that has great quickness off the ball, and he runs the entire route tree, and he’s an athlete playing receiver,” defensive coordinator Mike Caldwell said on Thursday. “The way that he moves, you can put him at any position, and he’d be successful. That helps him out being a receiver. He’s able to use his quickness, use his speed, and he can catch anything close to him.”

Adams is 6-foot-1 and weighs 215 pounds. He can use his quickness and skilled feet to execute any route he wants. And he has the measurables to win jump balls.

Paired with Hunter Renfrow, when the Raiders have it together, they make up a dangerous wide receiver combo.

Tyson Campbell continues breakout second season

Enter Tyson Campbell.

With Shaq Griffin on injury reserve, Campbell has been placed with more of a burden to slow down the opposing No. 1 receiver.

According to a statistic posted by Next Gen Stats earlier this week, Campbell shadowed Denver's Courtland Sutton for 74 percent of his routes.

He snagged his fourth career interception and allowed one reception on two targets to the veteran receiver. It’s another stellar performance from the second-year cornerback.

When asked about the potential of Campbell shadowing Adams, Caldwell said there was a possibility, almost certainly trying not to tip the Jaguars’ hand before the game on Sunday.

“We did a little bit last week. This week, we’ll just see how the game goes,” he said. “There’s always a chance of doing it, but right now, we’re just trying to figure out how they’re trying to attack us and find out what our best plan to attack them is.”

Campbell has arguably been the best player on either side of the ball for the Jaguars this season. Since training camp, he’s raised his stock almost on a weekly basis.

But according to Caldwell it can’t all fall on his shoulders when it comes to defending a player like Adams. It’ll take a team effort to slow down the superstar player.

“Anytime you get a guy who’s talked about as the number one person at a certain position, that should raise a hair on everybody’s neck,” Caldwell said when asked how excited he was to see Campbell versus Adams on Sunday.

“It’s not just Tyson, it’s everybody," he added. "It’s a team defense, and we understand that we have to pressure the quarterback to make him get rid of the ball, so we don’t have to cover as long on the back end. It’s a team effort. We’re excited about it, get a chance to go against a really good one.”

Jersey Reveal
