Which athletes had big efforts? Erie County high school Top Performers for April 3-8

Erie County high school athletes are getting hits, tossing gems, turning in top times and distances, and piling up goals and aces in the early going of the spring season.

Here are some of the top performances through the first week of April:

Baseball

Jon Albers, Corry: His three-run home run highlighted his four-RBI performance for the Beavers, who defeated Fort LeBoeuf 14-2 in five innings.

Reilly Brown, Iroquois: The Braves beat Eisenhower 12-2 in five innings thanks to his hitting (three hits and three RBIs) and pitching (no earned runs over a complete game).

Tyler Banks, General McLane: He hit three doubles and recorded a five-out save for the Lancers, who blanked Kentucky’s Knox Central 2-0.

Aari Fox, Fairview: His home run as the Tigers’ initial batter set the tone for their 12-0 victory over Erie High at Mercyhurst University.

Dylan Sheeder, General McLane: His two-run home run highlighted the offense for the Lancers, who defeated Bethlehem 9-6 in their season opener.

Jake Rzodkiewicz, Harbor Creek: His team-high three hits helped the Huskies beat Ashland (Kentucky) 4-2 in their game at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Jason Fultz, Cathedral Prep: His home run highlighted the offense for the Ramblers, who improved to 6-0 with an 8-2 victory vs. Meadville.

David Gibson, North East: His two hits and three RBIs highlighted the offense for the Grapepickers, who beat Seneca 8-1.

Bryce Schueth, Mercyhurst Prep: His grand slam highlighted the Lakers’ offense when they won 10-0 in five innings against Corry.

Vincent Campoli, Fairview: He struck out six Seneca batters over four innings and also drove in two runs for the Tigers en route to their 9-1 victory.

Ben Burkhardt, Iroquois: His two-run home run and three RBIs topped the offense for the Braves, who beat Rocky Grove 11-2.

Softball

Bri Price, Fairview: Her hitting (three-run double) and pitching (stranded the tying run at third base in the seventh inning) were vital to the Tigers’ 7-6 victory vs. Northwestern.

Kendall Stull, Fort LeBoeuf: She accounted for the tying and go-ahead runs in the top of the seventh inning when the Bison won 5-4 at Union City.

Mila Gehrlein-Carptenter, Iroquois: The Braves’ leadoff batter lived up to her status with two extra-base hits and three RBIs during their 7-2 victory over Rocky Grove.

Gracie Miller, McDowell: Her 3-for-3 effort at the plate included two doubles and two runs scored during the Trojans' 5-1 victory over Horseheads (New York) at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Jenna Wagner, Cathedral Prep: Her three-run home run highlighted the offense during the Ramblers’ 17-0, five-inning win against Erie High.

Lauren Konkol, Seneca: She drove in three runs with two doubles for the Bobcats, who beat Fairview 8-1.

Kendall Stull, Fort LeBoeuf: She socked two home runs and pitched two innings of relief when the Bison won 14-7 at Warren. ... The day before, she drove in four runs and was the winning pitcher when they beat Reynolds 13-0 in five innings.

Kayla Breese, Harbor Creek: Her three-run home run accounted for one-fourth of the Huskies’ offense for their 12-0, five-inning win at Union City.

Alex Cozzens, North East: She was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate and drove in two runs for the Grapepickers when they won a 13-2, six-inning game at Mercyhurst Prep.

Ella Dworek, Fairview: She contributed three hits and accounted for five runs when the Tigers routed North East in only three innings.

Cathryn Reynolds, Union City: Her three hits led the Bears’ 14-hit attack en route to their 8-2 victory vs. the rival Seneca Bobcats.

Rylee Vogt, Harbor Creek: She drove in three runs on three hits for the Huskies, who held off Northwestern for an 11-9 victory.

Softball standings, schedule, results: 2023 District 10 softball standings

Girls track and field

Devyn Agnello, Girard: She won the individual 800- and 1,600-meter races, and also anchored the YellowJackets’ victorious 1,600 relay, when they beat Iroquois 94-44.

Camryn Fox, Corry: The junior was a three-time track winner and one-time field winner (long jump at 16 feet, 1½ inches) during the Beavers’ 123-27 dual victory vs. Union City.

Emily Samluk, Fort LeBoeuf: The sprinter won the 100 (13.07 seconds), took second in the 200 (27.58) and ran a leg on the winning 400 relay (51.84) to help the Bison beat Harbor Creek, North East and Mercyhurst Prep in a Region 5 quad-meet.

Jalis Burgos-Welsh, Iroquois: The senior sprinter won the 100 (13.18), 200 (28.99) and 400 (1:10.87) in the Braves' 94-44 loss to Girard.

Boys track and field

Nickolas Payne, Girard: He had first-place heaves of 38 feet, 9½ inches in the shot put and 113-6 in the discus during the YellowJackets’ 90-47 dual victory vs. Iroquois.

Zach Turben, Corry: As a three-time track winner for the Beavers (1,600 meters and 3,200 relay and individual 400), he helped the Beavers beat Union City 121-29.

Jamari Curlett, North East: The junior’s winning time of 11.06 seconds in the 100 during a Region 5 quad-meet at Fort LeBoeuf doubled as the state's fastest for Class 2A sprinters, according to pa.milesplit.com.

Geremia Dell'omo, Girard: The YellowJackets junior jumper led the way in the long jump (19-8) and triple jump (41-1) during the team's 90-47 victory at Iroquois.

Nick Krahe, Harbor Creek: The West Virginia University football recruit won the discus (140-6) and shot put (52-11) during a Region 5 quad-meet with Fort LeBoeuf, North East and Mercyhurst Prep.

Boys tennis

Aaron Heinlein, McDowell: The Trojans’ No. 1 singles starter led their 5-0 shutout of the host Meadville Bulldogs.

Jonah Ng, Cathedral Prep: His victory in the No. 1 singles match contributed to the Ramblers’ 4-1 non-region dual victory vs. the host Hilton Head (South Carolina) Seahawks.

Boys lacrosse

Owen Callaghan, Cathedral Prep: He scored three goals and assisted on five others when the Ramblers defeated Meadville 16-5.

Girls lacrosse

Lexi Rich, McDowell: She scored six times for the Trojans en route to their 17-5 victory at Conneaut.

Boys volleyball

Octavian Sperry, Mercyhurst Prep: His double-double (14 kills and 11 digs) helped the Lakers defeat the Conneaut Eagles in three sets. ... Earlier in the week, he recorded 18 kills when they swept the Saegertown Panthers.

Jordan Haas, Cathedral Prep: He totaled 22 assists and served five aces during the Ramblers' five-set victory over the Fort LeBoeuf Bison.
