Athletes of the week named
The athletes of the week have both been finalized from sturgisjournal.com for the past week. New this week is the non-football athlete of the week, which pairs with the football athlete of the week.
Votes are cast on sturgisjournal.com in each.
The footballer of the week was Dawsen Lehew of Marcellus. He earned better than 42 percent of the total votes cast for athlete of the week. Lehew was nominated for leading the Wildcats to a 55-14 victory over Lawrence last week, in the game he rushed for 156 yards on the ground and scored three touchdowns.
The non-football player of the week went to Sturgis' Kaylee Draper, a sophomore on the swim and dive team. Draper has already qualified for the state finals in six individual events, including three last week. Draper earned athlete of the week honors by totaling better than 65 percent of the total votes cast.
