New athletic director DeWayne Peevy acknowledges DePaul basketball needs a culture change, but 'that's not something you have to change coaches to do'

CHICAGO — If there was any question about DeWayne Peevy’s ambitious goals as DePaul’s new athletic director, he answered them with his bold scheduling request to his longtime colleague and friend, Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari.

“That’s going to be the first thing I’m going after,” Peevy said on a video conference call with reporters Tuesday. “Cal, if you’re listening, get the phone ready.”

He then added for emphasis: “And they have to come to Wintrust.”

Peevy spent 12 years at Kentucky, beginning in media relations and working his way up to deputy athletic director and the main administrator for the men’s basketball team. He officially takes over Sept. 1 from Jean Lenti Ponsetto, who announced her retirement in June after 45 years at DePaul, including 18 as athletic director.
