Atlanta announces plans for Memorial Day

Memorial Day will be observed in Atlanta on Monday, May 30 as the community pauses to remember and reflect upon the service and sacrifices made by veterans. They will be recognizing all veterans who have served and are currently serving in the military. Organizers respectfully request the presence of living veterans to attend this event to honor their fallen comrades.

The Veterans Memorial Ceremony and Atlanta Band Concert will begin at 9:45 a.m.on the lawn of the Atlanta Public Library, 100 Race St. This year's speaker will be Former Captain Miguel Ortiz.

There will be NO bleacher seating this year. Those who plan to attend are asked to please bring a chair for individual use during the ceremony.

Other activities scheduled:

  • The Methodists Men's Group will be serving breakfast between 7 to 10 a.m. at the Atlanta Fire Department, 207 SE Vine Street.

  • Audra's Dance Studio Dancers will be performing in front of the library after the Memorial Day Ceremony.

  • The Atlanta Public Museum, 100 SE Race St., will be open from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. with new displays of Military memorabilia from the local community.
