Atlanta Braves trade 3 players, including Drew Waters, for No. 35 pick in MLB Draft

Jul. 11—The Atlanta Braves acquired the 35th pick in the 2022 Major League Baseball Draft from the Kansas City Royals on Monday.

Atlanta traded three players, including Gwinnett Stripers outfielder Drew Waters, for the pick in Competitive Balance Round A. The deal also included C.J. Alexander, an infielder for Double-A Mississippi, and Andrew Hoffman, a right-handed pitcher for Single-A Augusta.

The Braves add the draft pick to their first-round selection at No. 20 overall in the draft, which begins July 17.

Waters, 23, has hit .246 with 15 extra-base hits and 16 RBIs for the Stripers this season. He was a second-round draft pick of the Braves in 2017 out of Etowah High School in Woodstock. After Michael Harris' promotion to Atlanta, Waters was ranked as the Braves' No. 1 prospect by MLB.com.

Alexander, 25, was a 20th-round pick of the Braves in 2018. He has hit .238 in 250 minor league games with the organization.

Hoffman, 22, has made 22 starts in his two seasons with the organization for both Augusta and Rome. He is 9-4 with a 2.46 ERA during that span. He was a 12th-round pick of Atlanta in 2021.
