An Atlanta police officer might have a career as a midwife ahead of him if he decides to get off of the force.
Police say a veteran APD lieutenant was in a patrol vehicle over the weekend when he came across a soon-to-be mother and father rushing to get to the hospital to deliver their baby.
The lieutenant and several other supervisors in the car began using their lights and sirens to try and get them to the hospital quicker.

It quickly became clear they weren’t going to make it to the hospital in time, so the couple pulled over.
The lieutenant can be seen on body camera footage hopping out of the car and helping the parents.
The officer can be seen on the footage helping the woman deliver the baby.
“You’ve got a baby boy! Congratulations!” the unnamed lieutenant can be heard saying before the baby begins to cry.
Both mom and baby boy are doing well.
APD is giving a special shout out to the lieutenant for giving another meaning to “protect and serve.”
