Attempted Tuscola ATM robbery turns into high-speed chase

TUSCOLA, Ill. (WCIA) — Tuscola Police received a call overnight that someone was attempting to rob an ATM located at the First-Mid Bank on Main Street. A person nearby heard the noise and called the police.

According to Tuscola Police Chief Craig Hastings, officers arrived on the scene and the attempted robber, wearing an N95 mask, jumped into a Black Jeep Cherokee that had no license plate with another passenger. They then sped off and a police chase ensued.

The vehicle pursuit ended in Savoy. While the ATM was damaged, no money was taken.

According to First Mid Tuscola’s Branch Manager Anna Postlewait, most of the damage from the attempted robbery to the ATM was on the lock. The bank has since replaced the lock, and the ATM is now usable.
