Attorney General identifies victim, officers involved in in-custody death in Largo

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — The Maryland Office of the Attorney General (OAG) identified the man who died in police custody in Largo, Md. as well as the officers involved.

Man dies in Prince George’s County Police custody

On Feb. 16, officers responded to a call about a “suspicious person” knocking on people’s doors in the 10700 block of Lake Arbor Way at about 7:45 p.m. There, an officer found a man in the roadway. Police said he walked onto a nearby lawn and laid down.

The man was placed in handcuffs so that officers could take him to a hospital for evaluation. He then went into medical distress. A press release from the OAG said officers provided aid and medics took over resuscitation efforts.

He was pronounced dead on the scene a short time later.

The man was identified as 61-year-old Joseph Holmes of Clinton, Md.

The involved Prince George’s County Police officers were identified as Corporal Alyssa Tomaselli, Corporal Mark Price and Officer Marvin Marks. All officers are assigned to the Bureau of Patrol.

An officer with the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) Police Department was also present at the time and was identified as Officer Andre Brooks.

The Independent Investigations Division is still investigating the circumstances of Holmes’s death.
