GALESBURG — Local attorney Karl Johnson has announced his candidacy for Knox County resident judge.

He joins the race as a Republican candidate.

Johnson has practiced law for 34 years, primarily in Knox and surrounding counties. He has served as both assistant state's attorney and assistant public defender and currently is in private practice.

Johnson is a graduate of Augustana College and Southern Illinois University School of Law.

He is a past president of the Knox County Bar Association and former board member for Prairie State Legal Services. He is also a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, American Bar Association and Illinois Education Association.

Johnson resides with his wife and daughter in rural Altona.

In addition to practicing law, Johnson teaches part-time at a local high school and serves as a trustee with the Altona-Oneida-Wataga Ambulance Service.
