Attorney says former Decatur resident accused of Huntsville slaying acted in self-defense

Jan. 1—An attorney for a former Decatur resident charged with a slaying Thursday in Huntsville said she acted in self-defense.

Kashonna Jenae Strong, 32, is in Madison County Jail charged with murder in the shooting death of Antonio Robinson, 29. Huntsville police said in a statement they believe a domestic dispute led to the shooting.

Court records show Strong lived in Decatur until at least 2018. Decatur Youth Services sports coordinator Rico Pickett said Strong had helped coach basketball at Decatur Heritage Christian Academy.

Attorney Carl Cole of Decatur said Friday he is representing Strong in the case.

"She was attacked by an armed man, and she feared for her life," Cole said. "He tried to strangle her. He went for a gun. I've known her for 10 years. She's coached in the community, she's officiated games in the community, and I know for a fact she's helped problem kids and kept them out of trouble."

Strong was booked into the Madison County Jail at 11:50 p.m. Thursday. Huntsville police said the shooting is still under investigation.
