AU beginning online cybersecurity degree program

Apr. 2—ANDERSON — Anderson University is launching an online cybersecurity degree program that will begin this fall.

The program will be housed in the security studies program, an interdisciplinary unit that includes faculty from computer science and political science.

"As the demand for cybersecurity professionals in Indiana continues to grow, AU's new online cybersecurity major widens the reach of our program," said AU Provost Dr. Courtney Taylor. "Anderson University believes in preparing students to excel in any field of study and to do so with integrity and moral clarity. The technical skills learned in this cybersecurity major are built upon a strong and solid Christian ethical foundation."

According to university leaders, students will receive cybersecurity knowledge and benefit from the flexibility of an online program. In addition, they will learn the skills needed to analyze, interpret, defend and protect from cybersecurity threats.

Taylor and other faculty members point to data indicating that demand for cybersecurity expertise is growing worldwide as a key factor in launching the new major. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment openings in the field are projected to grow 32% by 2032, which translates into roughly 16,800 available jobs annually.

Curriculum in the major will also expose students to the role of policy development and regulatory frameworks, which play a key role in informing and shaping cybersecurity strategy.

Taylor said the new major will also equip students with ancillary skills that will translate into other industries, providing more options as they chart their vocational paths.

"Students will be well prepared to apply their knowledge in a variety of professions of a growing industry that has become increasingly relevant," he said.
