Auburn couple decries Caltrans' eminent domain move

Auburn's mayor is expressing concern over the treatment of an elderly couple facing an eminent domain action initiated by Caltrans in order to acquire land for a Highway 49 road project for $20,000. At issue is a piece of land at the corner of Lincoln Way and Borland Avenue that is owned by Kay and Shannon Woodland, who say they believe the property is worth more than 12 times what Caltrans offered. The land does not include the Woodland's home. Caltrans confirmed that it has begun eminent domain litigation on the approximately 18,000-square-foot vacant property necessary for the construction of the American Canyon Roundabout improvement project.
