Auburn football recruiting reaction to Bryan Harsin firing includes decommitment

Auburn football coach Bryan Harsin was fired Monday after accumulating a 9-12 record in less than two full seasons on the Plains. The decision came two days after a 41-27 home loss to Arkansas dropped the Tigers to 3-4 and 1-4 in the SEC.

An interim coach has not been announced, but the school said in a release it will "begin an immediate search" for Harsin's replacement.

Auburn recruiting never took off under Harsin despite a historic in-state class of 2023 about to enter college football after this season, with one of the best in-state crops ever. Auburn has the No. 55 recruiting class in the nation, according to the 247ASports Composite, which is last in the SEC.

Here are some reactions from recruits in the aftermath of Harsin's dismissal:

Decommitment

Class of 2023 three-star offensive lineman Gernorris Wilson decommitted just after Harsin's firing was announced. His decision left Auburn with 10 2023 commits as of mid-afternoon Monday.

"Due to the current circumstances I’ve decided to decommit from Auburn University," Wilson said on Twitter. "My recruitment is 1000% back open."

Daquayvious Sorey, a 2023 four-star receiver commit from Florida, is Auburn's fourth-highest ranked commit. He tweeted eye emojis after Harsin was let go.

Auburn three-star defensive line commit Jamarrion Harkless was also among recruits to tweet shortly after the news. his emoji showed a palms-up reaction.
