AUBURN — Despite true freshman Holden Geriner being announced as the starting quarterback for Auburn football against Arkansas, redshirt freshman Robby Ashford got his fifth straight start.

The announcement that Geriner was the starter came as a surprise, as Ashford, who started Auburn's previous four games, was listed as QB1 on the Tigers' depth chart Saturday and took pregame reps with the first-team offense.

It was Geriner, however, who was introduced as the starter on the video board at Jordan-Hare Stadium 30 minutes prior to gametime. 247Sports reported that the announcement was a video board error.

Ashford has seemingly asserted himself as Auburn's starter over the last four games. This season, the redshirt freshman has completed 67 of 140 passes for 1,014 yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions. On the ground, Ashford had proven himself as an adept scrambler with 310 yards on 74 carries but has committed seven fumbles.

Geriner, a four-star recruit, made his college debut when he relieved an injured Ashford in the third quarter of the Tigers' 17-14 overtime win over Missouri. He completed two of three passes for eight yards.

Auburn (3-4, 1-3 SEC) also welcomed Austin Troxell back to the starting lineup at right tackle. Troxell, the Tigers' starter through the first half of the season, missed the Oct. 15 game against Ole Miss due to an injury. Jeremiah Wright, who got his first start against the Rebels, continues to start at left guard.
