Two former Tiger players to participate in Field of Dreams game

The 2022 “Field of Dreams” game is set to take place tonight in Iowa, and Auburn will have two representatives on hand to take in the experience.

Former Auburn baseball players Keegan Thompson and David Ross will be in uniform for the Chicago Cubs as they face the Cincinnati Reds at the famous location of the 1989 film “Field of Dreams”, staring Kevin Costner.

Ross, who played for Auburn from 1996-97, was a part of Auburn’s 1997 College World Series team alongside Tim Hudson. He had a 15-year career as a player in the MLB, and is now serving as the Manager of the Cubs.

Thompson had a memorable career as Auburn’s Friday night starter for three seasons. As a Tiger, Thompson posted a 2.46 ERA in 38 appearances, striking out 210 batters from 2014-17. Thompson has made 15 starts for the Cubs this season, and has a 9-5 record with an ERA of 3.36 and 86 strikeouts.

First pitch between the Cubs and Reds is set to take place at 6:15 p.m. CT, and can be seen on FOX.

Auburn offers talented 2023 quarterback

After missing out on four-star QB Brock Glenn last month, it appears that Auburn has found another 2023 QB to target.

Auburn Live’s Jeffrey Lee has reported that Auburn has offered the No. 5 QB in the nation, [autotag]JJ Kohl[/autotag].

Kohl is currently committed to an in-state school in Iowa State, but Bryan Harsin may be looking to steal one of the best slingers that the country has to offer. Kohl has a tall frame, standing at 6-7 and 230 pounds.

According to his scouting profile from On3, Kohl can be creative as a playmaker, and has high velocity on his throws.

As of now, Auburn’s chances of landing Kohl are slim. But, in the recruiting world, anything can happen.

OL coach Will Friend provides update on unit

Quarterback is not the only position group up for grabs this preseason.

Offensive line coach Will Friend spoke to the media Wednesday, where he provided a tough, but honest assessment of the unit.

“There is nobody in that room that is a starter yet,” Friend said. “We have 20-something practices left before we play our first game. There has to be some separation, but we’re not there yet.”

What is he looking for in a starting offensive lineman? Friend says that the most competitive five linemen will see the field.

“They have to be sound on assignments and play like hell on Saturday. If they do that, they have a chance,” Friend said. “If they are off a little bit, they won’t do it. If they do those three things, they can succeed in this league.”
