Auburn not favored by ESPN for first time this season

The Tigers are coming off a tough loss against the Texas A&M Aggies on Wednesday. If statistics are to be believed, Auburn might be headed for another defeat sooner than later.

ESPN’s BPI has favored the Tigers in every game the team was set to play in this year, but that has now changed. FPI’s current projection for Auburn’s matchup against West Virginia has the Mountaineers at 66.2% chance to defeat the Tigers in the Big 12/SEC Challenge, the first time Auburn has been on the other side of a BPI projection this season. The projection comes ahead of the Tigers’ loss to the Aggies, but despite Auburn having won four more games than West Virginia so far on the year — on top of that, the Tigers have won four of their last five games while the Mountaineers have won just two in the same span.

BPI is not the only medium projecting an Auburn loss, however. BetMGM currently has the Mountaineers favored by 3.5 points, so it will be interesting to see how Bruce Pearl and his team react to being underdogs for perhaps the first time this season.

Auburn and West Virginia tip off at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday.
