Auburn Police arrest Tuskegee man after traffic stop leads to ‘serious injuries’ for 15-year-old

AUBURN, Ala. (WRBL) – The Auburn Police said a Tuskegee, Alabama, resident was arrested on multiple warrants after attempting to flee during a traffic stop, causing significant injuries to a minor.

The police department says 22-year-old Tyqaun Shermond Daniel was arrested after Auburn Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Daniel near the 600 block of Byrd Street.

During the traffic stop, police identified the driver as Daniel, but he drove away at a high speed, causing a police pursuit.

As Daniel continued driving, Auburn Police said a 15-year-old passenger exited the vehicle. Although the juvenile had jumped out of the car, Daniel continued to drive in a “reckless manner,” which caused the minor to suffer “serious injuries.”

Eventually, the vehicle ran into spikes placed by Auburn Police officers. Daniel was later detained near the 100 block of Chadwick Lane, where the vehicle became inoperable.

Police say that additional officers responded to where the 15-year-old was injured to provide medical aid and investigate the scene. The condition of the minor is unknown at this time.

Officers arrested Daniel on the following warrants and took him to the Lee County Jail, where he is held on a $65,000 bond:

  • First-degree assault

  • Felony attempting to elude

  • Failure to appear
