Auburndale is holding its first CityFest on Saturday, a music festival that replaces its former comic and science fiction-themed festival called CityCon.

“As we noticed Orlando, Tampa and Lakeland were starting to do more ComicCon type of events, we decided to put something together that wasn’t really being done in our city and several of the other events and try to focus on more of the music and free event,” said Cody McGhee, the parks and recreation director.

Auburndale's last CityCon was held in 2018. The city originally planned to hold the CityFest in 2020.

The event takes place from 1 to 10 p.m. at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex at 2701 Lake Myrtle Park Road in Auburndale.

“It’s designed to be a nice, fun, music festival for the city, for the residents, for people all inside of Polk County to enjoy,” McGhee said.

B. Haven, Walker Montgomery, Jerrod Nieman and Skinny McGee and his Mayhem Makers will take the stage. Kids can enjoy bounce houses and face painting during the day. Face Painting is available from 2 to 5 p.m.
