Auction adds $48,000 to city fund

Jun. 30—Logansport just had a financial boost.

Following a successful city auction of surplus items on June 19, Mayor Chris Martin said at the Board of Public Works and Safety meeting Wednesday that Logansport collected $48,345.77 from the sales. Various machines, vehicles, and appliances were auctioned off so that city departments could recapture monies.

Each department had an opportunity to go through inventory and sell whatever was no longer needed for job purposes.

The Cemetery brought in a little less than $5 while the Logansport Fire Department collected $129.09. The Logansport Police Department's goods sold for $7,727.52. The Parks and Recreation Department saw $11,462.49, whereas Dykeman Golf Course added approximately $13, 300 to the coffers, and the Street Department's products sold for more than $15,700.

Overall, Martin said it was a good sale with the proceeds being added to the general fund.

STREET CLOSURES

The board approved two street closures for August.

The first will be Security Federal Savings Bank's block party, which will run from 5 to 9 p.m. Aug. 6. The Pearl Street alley from Broadway to Market Street will be closed between 4 and 10 p.m. that day.

Street Commissioner Tony Shanks said he has "no issues with it," and that this will be the second annual block party hosted by the bank.

Similarly, he was in favor of the road closure for the upcoming Logansport Shrine Frolic. The annual parade will be from noon to 12:45 p.m. Aug. 21. The event will cause Broadway to be closed from 11th Street to Fourth Street, which the board approved.

AGREEMENTS

The board approved three agreements, including an amendment between Fort Worth, Texas-based Buxton Company and Chicago-based Park Development LLC for retail recruitment assistance for The Junction, the site formerly known as the Logansport Mall. The amendment updates the service and deliverable requirements for the next two years.

It also extends the service period through April 30, 2022, and April 30, 2023, for the next back-to-back annual agreements.

Similarly, the board opted to amend and supplement the original contract between the City of Logansport and Crossroad Engineers P.C., of Beech Grove, for consultant work to be completed on the east end of the city. The maximum amount payable by the city to Crossroads will be $84,000.

Upon the mayor's motion to add a third contractual issue to the agenda, the board approved a services agreement between Kurt West Garner, a preservation/consulting/design firm of Plymouth, and Indiana Landmarks through the Historic Preservation Commission Liaison.

The purpose is to fund a preservation planning report and priorities report for Logansport. Garner will complete two phases of work, at a cost of $2,000 per phase, focusing on a field survey, researching existing historic sites, seeking input of preservation goals from the Historic Preservation Commission, developing findings for the public, and soliciting public comments.
