Audi had a strong presence at the Los Angeles auto show this year, debuting the new RS Q8 and showing off the RS6 Avant, but one thing stuck out to us on the showroom floor. An RS5 Sportback that looked black at first glance; however, up close, the black turned into a deep purple. It's the Audi RS5 Panther Edition, the brainchild of Audi product manager Anthony Garbis.

Only 100 RS5s will be offered in the stealthy-looking Panther edition: 75 Sportbacks and 25 coupes. Garbis told C/D that he created the Panther Edition because he spec'd his 2018 S Q5 in a similar way with the Panther Black paint and liked it. Garbis says to be on the lookout for future Audis in Panther guise.

The Panther Black crystal effect paint has been a rare paint color on Audis of old, and it isn't the only unique aspect of the special edition package. There is silver trim on the front and rear splitters (the front being nicely contrasted with a matte black "Quattro" badge), 20-inch five-spoke wheels from the RS4 Avant, and the interior is adorned with Alcantara and red accents.

The RS5 Panther Edition will cost $88,995, which is $13,800 more than the RS5 Sportback's base price. They will arrive at dealerships in December 2019.
