Audio, minutes of 2021 executive session about Wyndham's $1.25 million utility bill released

Minutes of the executive session was also released.

In the Nov. 2, 2021 executive session, which was not open to the public, Mayor Jim Langfelder proposed negotiating $250,000 in debt forgiveness for the troubled downtown hotel, which has been up for sale.

The city council voted to release the audiotape to provide more clarity about the debt forgiveness, which never came up for a public vote.

A $1.25 million bill had been owed to the utility by TowerCapital Group, the owners of the hotel.

The full city council approved release of the audio and minutes as part of the consent agenda at its Feb. 21 meeting.

At the beginning of the meeting, city inspector general Roger Holmes said while there no penalty for city council members speaking publicly about what took place in the executive session, it should look into governance regarding those situations.

Langfelder said release of audiotape from an executive session was a first during his administration, dating back to 2015.
