Audubon Dakota hosting 2 events as part of Federal Duck Stamp Art Contest in Bismarck
Aug. 2—FARGO — The 2022 Federal Duck Stamp Art Contest will be held Sept. 23-24 at the North Dakota Outdoor Heritage Center and State Museum in Bismarck, Audubon Dakota announced Tuesday, Aug. 2, in a news release.
The Prairie Pothole Joint Venture will be the host of this year's contest and invited a number of partners, including Audubon Dakota, to host events that celebrate and raise awareness of the Federal Duck Stamp, one of the most successful conservation programs in our nation's history.
As part of the contest, Audubon Dakota will host "Grazing the Grasslands," a wildlife and working lands tour, at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 21 at Black Leg Ranch in McKenzie, North Dakota, and "Ducks at Daybreak," a guided birding adventure, at 8 a.m. Friday, Sept. 23, at Atkinson Park in Bismarck. Both events are family friendly and open to the public; registration is required. Everyone who registers to attend will be entered to win a $50 Scheels gift card. One winner will be randomly selected at each event but must be present to win.
Here's a closer look at each of the Audubon events
Join Audubon Dakota and the North Dakota Game and Fish Department from 3:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, to learn more about conservation strategies and wildlife management at Black Leg Ranch near McKenzie, North Dakota. Grazing the Grasslands will include a ranch tour, presentations, dinner and a Birds and Brew social.
The ranch tour will be led by members of the Doan family, owners and operators of Black Leg Ranch; and staff from Audubon Dakota, North Dakota Game and Fish and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Dinner will be served immediately following the ranch tour at the Copper Jewel, the event venue at Black Leg Ranch. Guests will enjoy Audubon-certified beef, and beer will be available for purchase from their on-site brewery. Attendees will receive a complimentary ACR pint glass to take home.
This event is family friendly, educational and focused on showcasing not only the benefits of the Federal Duck Stamp, but also the conservation efforts of Black Leg Ranch.
Tickets include dinner for the evening and are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under.
Join Audubon Dakota from 8 to 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 23, for a guided birding adventure along the 1.65-mile Atkinson Nature Park Trail. Atkinson Nature Park is a part of the Urban Woods and Prairies Initiative, a collaborative project between Audubon Dakota and the Bismarck Park District to restore grassland and woodland areas in the city of Bismarck. Other UWP participating cities include Fargo-Moorhead, Grand Forks, Minot, Valley City and Jamestown.
Bring the family out and learn about birding from experts. Those who attend should bring a pair of binoculars; a limited number is provided. Light refreshments will be provided. All skills welcomed; registration required.
Tickets are $5 for adults, and free for children 12 and under.
