August plans? How ‘bout a Boise food festival, Western Idaho Fair, pro golf and music?

August is just a couple of days away. And it’s hot — not just outside, but on the calendar, because the month has a lot going on.

For instance, what is that noise? It’s not just a wealth of music coming from outside shows. It’s your kids going bananas because the Western Idaho Fair is Aug. 18-27. It’s that time of year when we unapologetically shove deep-fried everything in our faces, all the while trying to ward off heat stroke (stay hydrated).

Don’t forget to follow your four Pronto Pup “snack” with a stomach-churning carnival ride (heh heh), or maybe let the madness digest and snag some shade for a grandstand concert. All four are free with admission. Smash Mouth and Spin Doctors will play Aug. 22, T.I. on Aug. 23, Bush on Aug. 24 and Justin Moore on Aug. 25.

Want food but not into the carnival atmosphere? Hit up the Boise Soul Food Festival on Aug. 12 at Julia Davis Park and treat your taste buds to a variety of Southern-inspired goodies.

Any golf fans? Got you covered. The Albertsons Boise Open will come out swinging Aug. 24-27. The concerts after the golf are pretty much sold out, but a few tickets might remain for Joan Jett and The Blackhearts on Aug. 25.

And things will be looking up at the end of the month when hot air balloons begin to launch for the Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic, taking place Aug. 30 through Sept. 3 in Ann Morrison Park.

Note: Check with event websites or social media before attending. Events might be canceled or postponed after press deadline.
