Augusta man dead after crash on I-20

An Augusta man is dead following a wreck on an I-20 exit ramp Monday afternoon.

Matthew Lowery, 57, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Richmond County Coroner's Office.

Just after 1 p.m., the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division responded to the I-20 eastbound exit ramp to I-520 west for a crash with injuries.

The driver received CPR from first responders and later died from his injuries, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

The investigation showed the car exited the roadway "in an uncontrolled manner" and came to rest upside down, according to the release. The driver was ejected through the front windshield.

Lowery was the only occupant of the vehicle, according to the coroner's office.

No other injuries were reported, according to the sheriff's office.
