Augusta Mayor Johnson announces 2024 Mayor’s Masters Reception

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Augusta Mayor Garnett Johnson is preparing to host the 2024 Mayor’s Masters Reception.

The yearly event has been a part of Masters Week in Augusta since 1999, when former Mayor Bob Young started the tradition.

This year, the event is set to honor Fanny Sunesson, the first female caddie to win a
men’s major golf championship.

Also set to be honored is Jaylen Watson, cornerback for the Kansas City Chiefs and two-time
Superbowl Winner.

The Mayor will also present the 2024 Distinguished Service Award.

Regional leaders invited to collaborate include City of Aiken Mayor Teddy Milner, North Augusta Mayor Briton Williams, and Columbia County Chairman Doug Duncan.

All proceeds from this year’s event will benefit Masters City Little League.

NewsChannel 6’s Dee Griffin will serve as this year’s emcee.

The event will feature DJ Brandi Renae and live music by Tara and the Snacks and King Size, food trucks, and bounce houses for children. The event will close out the evening with a fireworks show.

The 2024 Mayor’s Masters Reception will take place Saturday, April 6 at the Augusta Common in Downtown Augusta. The event runs from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Admission is free.
