Augusta is among five cities from across the U.S. that have been specially selected for a new presidential plan.

On Thursday, the White House released details on President Biden's Investing in America Agenda which looks to help Americans have access to high quality jobs, and Augusta is serving as a 'Workforce Hub.'

The plan involves catalyzing public and private investments which would boost labor needs. In order to meet the demand, the Biden Administration will partner with local stakeholders in key areas to solidify a diverse and skilled workforce.

It will start with five focus regions this summer which will serve as models for the administration's efforts in other cities. These five regions are the Workforce Hubs, which include Augusta, Phoenix, Columbus, Baltimore and Pittsburgh.

The White House's news release described Augusta as a diverse community that is home to Fort Gordon, the Medical College of Georgia and Savannah River Nuclear Solutions.

"The administration’s efforts will focus on preparing and creating pathways for people in Augusta and the surrounding areas to access the good-paying jobs created in the clean energy industry, among others," noted the news release.

In a news release issued by Augusta Mayor Garnett Johnson, he said he was elated by this announcement and his office will be working to enhance the efforts of this opportunity.

"My administration has begun collaboration with local community partners so we can have a complete vision for progressive workforce development for Augusta and the surrounding regions," Johnson said. "The City of Augusta looks forward to partnering with The White House and regional stakeholders to train a workforce that will be ready and capable to meet the needs and requirements of employers in various industries."
