Sep. 5—Casey Williams brings her passion for writing as she joins the Aiken Standard.

Williams, who was born in Atlanta but has called Augusta home since she was 9, will serve the role as a general assignment reporter for the newspaper.

Graduating in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Georgia, she freelanced for the Aiken Standard and The Red and Black.

She also worked for DoorDash and Lyft and studied for law school before landing the full-time job at the Aiken Standard.

"This is my first journalism job, and I am happy with it," she said.

Williams said she has always liked journalism because she likes talking to people, hearing their stories, writing and taking pictures.

"Journalism always felt like a natural fit for me," she said.

She said even though her current role doesn't focus on a certain beat, she likes how it provides a variety in reporting.

As she settles into her new job, her main goals are to become a better writer, interviewer and photographer.

She said she hopes the experience will prepare her for the next step in her career.

Outside of work, Williams likes going to the gym, playing the piano, reading, writing fiction stories, practicing Taekwondo and hobbies like anime and cosplay.

"I am excited to have a platform to write through because you can write and write, but sometimes people can't see it because you don't have a big enough platform," Williams said. "I am excited to finally write as a journalist and people get to see what I write."
