Augusta principal honored for STEM teaching by Air & Space Force Association

An Augusta area principal won the STEM Teacher of the Year by the Savannah Air & Space Forces Association and the State of Georgia.

Dr. Mayreather Willis is the principal of the private Challenge Preparatory Academy, a relatively new school established with a focus on cyber curriculum in 2021. According to the press release, Willis also taught a science course that gave students experience coding, as well as exposure to guests from Augusta Technical College and the Georgia Cyber Center among other opportunities.

Willis hopes that students will leave Challenge Preparatory ready to take on local cyber and engineering careers, according to the press release. The award ceremony will be held at Challenge Preparatory on Oct. 5.

The Savannah AFA includes not only Savannah, but also Augusta, Brunswick and other areas. The AFA honors Science, Technology, Engineering and Math teachers each year at the national, state and chapter level.
