Augusta supervisors to elect new chair, new Augusta ordinances under review: THE AGENDA

VERONA — On Wednesday, Jan. 3 the Augusta County Board of Supervisors will elect a chairman and vice chair for the new year. The board will also consider adopting rules of order, such as requiring information in closed sessions to be "be repeated to no one."

The Staunton City School Board will recognize the division-level winners of Support Staff of the Year and Teacher of the Year. The Staunton board will also consider acquiring art curriculums and resources for several arts classes, including Drawing, Ceramics I & II, Craft Design, Painting, Honors Studio Art, AP Drawing, and AP Art History. A textbook committee reviewed the materials in December and is currently posted for public review.

The Augusta County Planning Commission will hold public hearings on several ordinance changes. The executive summaries of the ordinances provide an overview of each considered change:

  • An ordinance increasing “the minimum setback for mining/quarry operations from 200’ to 500’ from all property lines and increases the minimum setback the Board of Zoning Appeals may reduce or eliminate from 200’ to 500’.”

  • An ordinance adding a “10,000 square feet limit” to “limited outdoor storage” as a “standard for vehicles, boats, recreational vehicles, and similar vehicles.”

  • An ordinance allowing “the Board of Zoning Appeals to reduce or eliminate the one hundred-foot (100’) setback between adjoining property owners where similar industrial uses are ongoing.”

  • An ordinance removing a requirement that a petitioner “be notified of the last day prior to consideration by the planning commission when the owner may proffer conditions.”
