Augustana University's next Boe Forum to feature former Norwegian prime minister

Gro Harlem Brundtland, the former prime minister of Norway and director-general of the World Health Organization, will be the featured speaker at Augustana University’s Boe Forum on Public Affairs in March.

Brundtland, who is considered the “Mother of Sustainability,” will speak about the focus on sustainable development during her talk.

She travels and lectures as a leading voice on climate change for a healthier and better educated world and is a champion of sustainable development, which she defines as “meeting the demands of the present generations while preserving the rights of future generations to meet their own needs,” according to a press release from Augustana University.

Following Brundtland’s address on sustainable development will be a Q&A session, with questions developed by Augustana students interested in sustainability and moderated by Augustana President Stephanie Herseth Sandlin.

“As we emerge from the global pandemic and face the immediate and future challenges of climate change, Dr. Harlem Brundtland’s address will bring invaluable insight on the importance of empowering communities to find sustainable solutions that improve the health of people and the planet,” Herseth Sandlin said in a press release.

The forum will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, in the Elmen Center. Tickets are free and will be available to the public beginning in January.
