Aurora building value soars to $20M in March, April

AURORA – After a slow start for building projects in the first two months of 2022, the value of projects for which building permits were issued in March and April soared to $20.42 million.

According to figures from the planning-zoning-building department, the value of proposed projects in January and February only amounted to $2.8 million. So the total for the first four months of 2022 was $23.32 million.

Of the March and April total, $13.91 million was for residential projects, $6.3 million for industrial and $220,000 for commercial. The largest industrial project was a mezzanine at McMaster Carr on Industrial Parkway.

The only other industrial project was an estimated $200,000 for a mezzanine at Avantor/Poseidon at 220 Lena Drive.

Commercial projects were an estimated $102,000 for interior alterations at Aurora High, $100,000 for interior alterations at the Church in Aurora and $18,000 for ADA restrooms at Marc’s.

Fifty-one total residential permits were issued in March and April.

The 35 in March included 15 for single-family homes, four each for condominium units, additions and decks, three each for alterations and in-ground pools and one each for garage and above-ground pool.

The 16 in April included eight for alterations, six for single-family homes and two for decks.

Licenses issued totaled 96 in March and 60 in April.

The March breakdown was: General work, 71; electrical, 10; plumbing, 11; and heating-air conditioning, four. The April breakdown was: General work, 48; electrical, eight; plumbing, three; and HVAC, one.

Building department revenue totaled $262,059 in March. The breakdown was as follows: Building permits and miscellaneous, $35,160; licenses, $9,600; impact fees, $16,576; state fees, $368; completion deposits, $9,805 ($3,660 returned); and topography deposits, $190,000 (nothing returned).

In April, building department revenue totaled $96,482. The breakdown was: Building permits and miscellaneous, $22,497; licenses, $6,000; state fees, $246; impact fees, $3,108; completion deposits, $4,630 ($1,700 returned); and topography deposits, $60,000 (nothing returned).

Building department personnel made 442 inspections (88 residential and 354 commercial/industrial) in March and 346 (288 residential and 58 commercial/industrial) in April.
