Aurora Community Theater announces 'Sondheim Tribute Review' performances, 64th season

Aurora Community Theatre is presenting special benefit performances of "Sondheim Tribute Revue" this Friday and Saturday and on Sept. 1 and 2.

All performances begin at 7:30 p.m.

The review in honor of the late Stephen Sondheim includes songs from most of Sondheim’s shows, including "Sweeny Todd," "Company," "Into The Woods," "Anyone Can Whistle," and many more.

Sondheim was widely acknowledged as the most innovative, most influential and most important composer and lyricist in modern Broadway history. His accolades include an Academy Award, eight Tony Awards (more than any other composer) including the Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre, multiple Grammy awards, multiple Drama Desk Awards and a Pulitzer Prize.

Director and Producer Katie Hintze leads the production's creative team, with David W. Coxe as music director and Ann Nyenhuis as stage manager/technical director.

The cast of singers include Abby Becker, Don Bernardo, Josh Budd, Ron Davis, Brooke Hamilton, Stephanie Malfara, Jordon Matthew, Genesis Perez-Padilla, Abby Rosu and David Rusnak.

Tickets can be purchased in advance at auroracommunitytheatre.com or by calling 330-562-1818. Proceeds from "Sondheim Tribute Revue" will go to help make improvements to ACT's technical booth.

"Sondheim Tribute Revue" is presented through special arrangement with Musical Theatre International. All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI.

Aurora Community Theater is also announcing its 64th season. Productions, all scheduled for Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., include:

  • Agatha Christie’s "And Then There Were None" directed by Marc C. Howard. Oct. 27 to Nov 18.

  • "Arsenic & Old Lace" by Joseph Kesselring, directed By Chris Bizub. Jan 26 to Feb 17.

  • "Gypsy," music by Jule Styne, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, book by Arthur Laurent, directed by Mark Cipra. April 26 to May 18.

  • "Hair," book and lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado, music by Galt MacDermot, directed by Bob Maddox. June 21 to July 13.

Aurora Community Theatre is located at 115 E. Pioneer Trail, near the intersection of state routes 43 and 306, at the gazebo in the center of Aurora.

The Denise G. & Norman E. Wells Jr. Family Foundation was the underwriter of the Wells Main Stage.
