Aurora falls 2-1 in overtime of USL W League championship match

The Minnesota Aurora women’s soccer team fell one goal short of an undefeated season, losing 2-1 in overtime to South Georgia Tormenta FC in the championship match of the USL W League on Saturday night at TCO Stadium in Eagan.

It was the only loss of the season for Aurora, which opened its inaugural season of competition with a 1-1 tie with the Green Bay Glory on May 26, then reeled off 13 consecutive victories, including two in the playoffs.

Aurora finished 13-1-1, winning the Heartland Division to get to the playoffs. Aurora coach Nicole Lukic was named league coach of the year earlier this week.

South Georgia Tormenta FC finished 7-1-4 in the regular season to win the South Central Division, then won three playoff games to secure the USL W League championship.
