An Aurora man has been ordered held on a $250,000 bond after his car allegedly struck the back of a motorcycle, killing a woman and seriously injuring another man, before fleeing the scene on Route 82 Friday night.

Nicholas Anthony Monachino, 26, was arraigned in Portage County Municipal Court in Ravenna on Monday on charges of second-degree felony aggravated vehicular homicide, aggravated vehicular assault and hit-skip — both third-degree felonies — first-degree misdemeanor operating a vehicle under the influence and minor misdemeanor assured clear distance ahead.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol's Ravenna Post said it received a call to respond to Route 82 in Aurora at 6:52 p.m. where the driver of an eastbound 2016 Infiniti Q50 allegedly struck the rear of an eastbound Yamaha V-Star motorcycle.

The driver of the motorcycle, Ryan J. Tucholsky, 29, and the passenger, Sara R. Tartaglio, 40, were both thrown from the motorcycle. Tartaglio was taken to UH Twinsburg Medical Center, where she died. Tucholsky suffered life-threatening injuries and was flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. Information about his condition was unavailable Monday.

Both Tucholsky and Tartaglio were wearing helmets at the time of the crash, the highway patrol said.

The driver of the Infiniti, identified as Monachino, allegedly drove away from the scene, but was later found after crashing on Pioneer Trail. He was taken to the Portage County Jail, according to the highway patrol.

A mental health evaluation for Monachino has been ordered, according to court records. Conditions of Monachino's bond, if he is released, include that he neither use nor possess alcohol and illicit substances and that he not drive unless deemed eligible.

The crash remains under investigation. Aurora police and the Portage County Prosecutor's Office assisted at the scene.

Monachino is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Friday.
