Aurora man sentenced to 15 years in prison for sexual assault of a child

An Aurora man has agreed to a sentence of 15 years in prison in exchange for a guilty plea to predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, officials said.

Jose A. Jimenez, 38, of Margarets Lane, agreed to the plea on May 25 after he was previously scheduled for a jury trial in July, Kane County court records show.

Kane County Judge Alice Tracy accepted the plea, officials from the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office said in a news release.

Prosecutors said between January and March 2022, Jimenez sexually assaulted a child he knew, who was younger than 12 years old. The child disclosed the abuse to a school social worker, who contacted authorities, officials said.

In addition to the prison term, Jimenez must register for life as a sexual offender in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act.

Jimenez must serve at least 85% of the sentence and receives credit for 394 days served in the Kane County jail, according to officials.
