Aurora man struck and killed while crossing Interstate 5 near Brooks on foot

A 52 year-old Aurora man was struck and died while trying to cross southbound Interstate 5 on foot near the Brooks interchange Friday night, Oregon State Police said in a press release.

OSP said that Arnulfo Chavez was trying to cross the freeway when he was hit by a Honda CRV at 8:44 p.m. He was declared dead at the scene.

Police said the driver of the Honda remained on the scene and cooperated with investigators. A passenger sustained minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.

Both directions of the freeway were closed near exit 263 for about three hours while troopers investigated.
